Ireland V Sweden ~ Match Report

Ireland V Sweden ~ Match Report

Franner’s very own roving reporter, Alex Ferns, follows Friday night’s soccer action….

Ireland 1-2 Sweden

Ireland’s World Cup hopes seem to be in doubt after a 2 – 1 loss to Sweden. Things seemed to be going to plan when Robbie Keane was through on goal but it looked like he was taken down by the goalie yet the ref did not give it.  The ball travelled towards the goal, it was cleared off the line but that didn’t stop Robbie Keane from scoring the rebound,1-0 Ireland.

From that moment the plan shoud have been still working, but surprise surprise, Trapattoni’s plan stopped working, so 10 minutes later the Swedes started to dominate and when a cross came in, Norwich’s Johan Elmander beat Richard Dunne in the air and scored. So after that everything was boring until the 50th minute when Anders Svensson was through on goal and scored, David Forde was helpless.

On the 70th minute Shane Long dispossessed  Martin Olson but failed to spot Robbie Keane.  Shane Long did not keep his head up, it would have been a clear goal.  On the 79th minute a crazy pitch invader came on to the pitch, he got past 2 stewards but was stopped by the third.

After that there were no more chances and it looks like it will be the same for Trapattoni if he does not create a miracle and win our last three games, well Austria lost too, so you never know.
