Our window garden is a vertical hydroponic growing system where edible plants grow in water as opposed to soil. So far, we have planted various herbs such as basil, parsley, mint, thyme and rosemary.
Space is a premium in the inner city, which is why we have developed this window farm. It is a lot of responsibility to make sure that the plants are healthy and that the watering system is working properly! But we love it, and it is so much fun to grow plants this way.
Watch how we brought our hydroponic window garden to life, through hard work, patience, and creativity.
In Franner, we believe in sustainability, healthy eating, and being environmental entrepreneurs. We understand that childhood obesity has become an issue in Ireland, and we are committed to combating it in every way we can.
Our Other Gardening Activities!
We have also started to grow various vegetables and flowers, some on the school grounds and some in our very own plot of land in Flanagan’s Field. We can’t wait to harvest our vegetables and bring them home for dinners, lunches, and breakfasts!
And We Can’t Forget About Our Turtles
Meet Turbo and Snorke!
They are yellow bellied turtles and are still just babies! We have some very dedicated boys in the school who help to clean the tank and feed the turtles every day.
Thanks to Cormac, a parent, who has helped us out so much with learning how to take care of them and making sure that their tank runs properly!
