Last Friday, the 26th of January, we were visited by President Michael D. Higgins who officially opened our new school library.

He was given a grand tour of the library, including his very own library card and book.

On the day, after much preparation, the president was greeted by the whole school with flags, signs and cheering. We were so excited to have him at our school!

Pupils sang beautifully, spoke about some of the incredible things going on in our school – Active Schools, Mental Health, Neurology, Physical Health, Human Rights, Robotics and Changemaker Schools. Both he and his wife Sabina really enjoyed it.

Before he left, we presented him with a unique – a tree with the thumbprints of every boy in the school.

He also received a gift from Joseph O’Connor – a book written by his father and long-time friend of Francis St. CBS Sean O’Connor.

The day was a great success and we were sad to see him go, but hopefully he will be able to visit our school again soon.

“There is no better gift than a library. Once you have a love of reading, you will never be alone.”

Michael D. Higgins.
