There is a strong tradition of hurling in Franner and we are closely linked with Kevin’s Hurling club. Kevin’s hurling club provide weekly coaching sessions for all classes in the school. Mr. Burke coaches our school hurling team and last year the boys reached the finals at Croke Park. Mr. Burke and Mr. Doyle coach the school gaelic football team. The boys compete in both the Cumann na mBunscoil competition and the Dublin 8 Gaelic Football blitz.

Mr. Doyle coaches the school soccer team and the boys compete in both the FAI 11 a side and 5 a side competitions.

Franner also participates in the Liberties Festival soccer competition and the Dublin 8 indoor soccer blitz.

We have close links with our local League of Ireland soccer club St. Patrick’s Athletic. The Youth Development Officer John Russell conducts coaching sessions with the boys. John also does classroom based sessions where he teaches the boys about the importance of food, nutrition and discipline.

We have established a link with Monkstown CBS Secondary, a renowned rugby playing school ,whereby every Tuesday their Transition Year Students coach the boys the basic skills of the game.

Graham from the Solas Project does a tag Rugby Coaching module with our fifth and sixth classes. This involves our boys participating in the Dublin 8 tag rugby blitz.

We recently had a member of Leinster Rugby bring the Heiniken Cup to our school!!

Every year we have an Active School Week and a Sports day which promotes athletics in our school. Some of our boys have competed at the Primary School Athletics competition in Santry.

Every class in the school has 6 swimming lessons per year. With two qualified swim instructors.

The lessons are held in the Guinness Bicentenary Pool.
