Sports at Franner

Sport is very important in our school!

Gaelic Football & Hurling

Francis Street School has a rich history in GAA particularly in hurling. In the early 1980s Francis Street competed in the final at Croke Park for 3 successive years. We participate in gaelic football and hurling competitions with the Cumann na mBunscol. We have very strong links with our local hurling club, St. Kevin's, who provide us with endless support with coaching, pitches, facilities and transport to matches.

Cycling

Each year 5th class attend a 5 week cycle safety workshop with Dr. Bike.

Boxing

Our senior pupils participate in the DCC boxing program with our Boxing coach Ed.

Soccer

Our boys compete in both the FAI 11 a side and 5 a side competitions. We have previously represented Dublin in the Leinster Finals in Navan. We also compete in the Dublin 8 indoor soccer blitz. We have close links with St. Patrick’s Athletic football club and are number 1 fans of one of their players James Doona who is a past pupil and great friend to the school. The St. Pat's Community Development officer conducts coaching sessions with the boys and also provides classroom based sessions that focus on nutrition and life style.

Athletics

Every year we have an Active School week and we also celebrate National Fitness day. Furthermore we have an annual sports day which promotes both athletics and a healthy lifestyle. Some of our boys have competed at the primary school athletics competition in Morton Stadium, Santry.
